Self-esteem Report

Question 1

why do you think people are portrayed this way in the media?

I think that people are made to look like this in the media because people who advertise stuff want it to be attractive so they put attractive looking people on the media to advertise the product. also the makers of the commercial want you to feel like your going to look as good as the person in the video if you use their product. also they makers of the commercial want you to remember the commercial, so if they put someone really attractive in a commercial then the people who watch it might remember it because of the attractive person in it.

Question 2

How are you affected by the images you see?

I personally my self-esteem or the way i feel about myself doesn't become affected by images i see in the media. although the video that was posted on the mary ward blog of that girl putting make up on and looking like a new person made me think of how much time and how much effort that person would have to got through just to look like that again. the images on the mary ward blog also got me thinking that the media is full of lies and fakes because on T.V, internet, and magazines there are pictures very attractive people, but the thing is that those pictures and videos can be edited to make those people look better then the average person. i guess thats also why i personally don't take part of those celebrity fandom stuff because to me they're just normal people, its just that they have something that attracts the public.

Question 3

what can be done to reduce the amount of young men a women that they are negatively affected by these images?

well i think that the only to change anything about media is to put in normal average looking people because people are always going to be negative about something, it just varies from person to person how much they act negatively. also if they put normal looking people in the media it might actually make the media become a source of positivity for people.

Question 4

what would your reaction be to a magazine cover where the subject isn't all glammed up? Is this a possible route that society should take? why or why not?

ok i think my reaction to the none glammed up magazine would be, "wow are these people are just getting lazy now." i honestly think that the flashiness of a magazine cover is what attracts people to read it in the first place. so in other words, i think that they shouldn't change the flashiness of a magazine but they should change the  articles inside the magazine. i think im a bit of a bias answer because i don't really read magazines and im not really interested in them in anyway, but i guess thats just me.

To Share or Not To Share? - response :D

question 1

What is your personal opinion towards file sharing? Is it right or wrong?

Well my opinion on file sharing on the internet is that it is a normal thing to use because people don't want to buy CDs from a store and burn the files on to their computer just to put onto an iPod or mp3. It just to much trouble to do every time you want a new song. also kids/teens wouldn't be able to get the music they want ether because they don't have credit cards to pay for songs on the internet, and i know personally that my parents wouldn't use their credit cards every time i wanted to download a new song. I think they would have gone broke by now if i did. Even though i say that file sharing is ok, i still think that it should be limited because the people that made the file should still get something out of it. For example, lets say the site limits the download to every 3 songs/movie/picture you download a 3 min add pops up because to post an add on a site you have to pay the site owner money for every click or view on that add. so the site owner should send some of that add money to the creator of that specific file, so that they can also be payed at least something.

question 2

If you produced your own piece of art/music/movie, would you hold the same opinion?

If i produced my own file and it was being shared on the internet, yes i would stay with my opinion because i think that if it's being shared then people must like it, and if people like it then that would eventually open an opportunity for profit. i also stay behind my opinion because even if it doesn't become very famous and no opportunities pop up i'm still getting payed something because of the adds that show on the site the people are using to download my file.

question 3

Do you feel it is morally acceptable to download copyrighted material if it's only for personal use?

i honestly think that its morally acceptable to download music from the internet because as long as the persons file has some creditably to the creator then its ok. besides most people put their stuff out there just to be known or just because they want to say their opinion through artwork or song or movie. also for a movie it has to come out in theaters first before anyone can download it and usually the quality of the video is just some guy holding a camera in the theaters, so most people think its just better to go watch to movie in theaters. also with songs the artists songs just becomes more popular and so the people go out and see the artistes concerts or if its a DJ then the person goes to see them in a club. so ether way the artist is still getting payed something.

Texting in Social Situation

1.  What are your thoughts on texting in social situations?
my thoughts of texting is that its like being sick with like a cough or something. I well i guess thats because people constantly text. Its like if people see you texting they're going to be like, "ohh i forgot to check my text," then they start, then the people around them start, and soon everyone you see is eather talking to there phone or texting. I swear textings so bad these days that some people actually become addicted. when i heard that i was like, " WHAT KIND OF PERSON GETS ADDICTED TO TEXTING?!" all you have to do is drop your phone once and a while, its not hard, i only text if i have to, or when im bored and alone. i didnt get how bad people text. Until my mom showed me this video.
ya thats ALOT my limit its 1000 but i only use like 500 in a month. some times i have to text thats understandable but, sometime just need to put the phone down, go play games, or like go talk to your friends on skype or something, cuz texting can be dangerous.
2.  Do you find it rude if you’re talking to somebody and they proceed to text
     continuously on their cell phone?
i dont really find it rude i just find it a bit annoying, but if its not a lot then i dont mind that much.
3.  If you had to come up with a list of five etiquette rules for texting, what
     would they be?
my rules would be:
1. dont do anything important while texting
2. dont text to someone while in the same room with that person
3. dont walk and text ( i walked into a pillar at Kennedy and like i looked soooo stupid)
